Templeton, CA is in one of the world’s seven Mediterranean climate zones. Open fields,  moderate climate and birds of prey. Well-fed birds. At the bottom of a tall Cyprus tree were  dozens of tiny skulls. I looked up and the branches were festooned with bleached-white mole  skulls. I’d found a hunter’s midden.
